In the kitchen

Influenced by the presence of the sea, the La Matelote* highlights fish and seafood from sustainable fishing sources, in partnership with Nausicaá and the Mister Goodfish programme. We also propose a choice of premium cuts of meat cooked to perfection for meat lovers. Our desserts are loyal to French tradition with the classic souffle and our signature dessert, the quintessential warm chocolate parfait.

The chef

Tony Lestienne grew up here and has been running his restaurant, la Matelote, for 40 years. He strongly believes in bountiful, classic French cuisine prepared with precision and full flavours. His profession is his passion. And hospitality is his way of life. Thanks to him, La Matelote has become an institution with a tightly knit team. His son, Stellio has joined him to inject new energy into this constantly developing Boulogne-sur-mer institution.

The restaurant

Designed like a family home, the decoration of the restaurant is contemporary, featuring the red and gold signature colours of La Matelote. Light floods through large windows in to the intimate dining room with low arm chairs and elegantly dressed tables. The portrait of “The Bearded Woman”, Clémence Lestienne, the chef’s great-great-great-grandmother and a local figure, has pride of place overlooking the room.

Private rooms

We have four private rooms for family functions, seminars, management meetings, business meetings or a night out with friends.
Impress your guests and colleagues with the elegance, sophistication and confidentiality of our venue.
The Jardins de la Matelote function venue is also available for large receptions.
